Forgives Edmund for not writing because, "who could find time to write to a distant brother and at the same time attend to the multifarious round of circumstances connected with wooing and marrying a wife? I assure you I have not heard of two weddings lately which pleased me more." Edmund Broadus, father of John Albert Broadus, married his second wife, Somerville Ward in January 1849. In the same month, Edmund's daughter Caroline married W.A. Whitescarver.
